The Ohio State Grill Topper is a portable ceramic coated cast iron grill rack that turns ordinary meats into works of art by searing Buckeye logos onto the surface of the meat.  Simply set the Grill Topper on your existing grill rack and pre-heat.  Place your chicken, pork, or beef directly on the team logo, searing the image onto the meat as it cooks to perfection!  Available in two convenient sizes to fit all grills.

How it Works

Searing meat is the process of caramelizing the sugars present in your choice of meat.  This creates a slightly more colorful flavor than baking would, and forms an aesthetic crust around the meat's surface.  There are a few pre-cooking tips that will help make the most out of your Grill Topper sear:

1. Remove the meat from the refrigerator and set it out at room temperature   for 15-20 minutes before putting it on your grill.  Moving it out of the cold  allows the meat to relax, re-absorbing the meat's natural moisture into the muscle, rather than staying trapped between the meat's fibers.
2. While the meat is resting at room temperature, place the Grill Topper onto your grill rack, and pre-heat your grill at it's highest setting (preferably 500-525 degrees).
3. After the meat rests for a while at room temperature, season it with your favorite salt seasoning.  The seasoning will stick to the moist surface, and as it cooks, it will form a flavorful seared crust.  The salt will also permeate the surface of the meat, flavoring the meat's interior.  If you choose to marinate the meat in a sweet or sugary solution, be careful when searing, as the added sugars could burn quickly, ruining the taste of the meat.
4. Place the meat over the reverse image logo on your pre-heated Grill Topper for approximately 90 seconds (times will vary based on the characteristics of your grill and the preheated temperature of your grill).  Once the image is seared onto the meat, reduce the heat of your grill to your preferred cooking temperature and continue cooking the meat to perfection without flipping.  Sear marks will not work on both sides of the meat, due to reducing the overall heat of your grill.
